A CHILDREN’S BOOK that brought empathy to the issue of child homelessness

Problem:

In 2019, homelessness figures in Ireland were at catastrophic levels but what was being lost in the stats and figures was the real impact on homeless families, especially the young children involved.

Idea:

In the short term Focus Ireland, a nonprofit homeless organisation, needed to find a way to create much needed funds for their family services at Christmas. In the long term, they wanted to find a way to help educate teachers, parents and children about homelessness in Ireland.

Execution:

We decided to create a unique bedtime story.

How Will Santa Find Us?’ tells the story of a family that loses their home at Christmas, and follows a little girl and her younger brother as they move from place to place. Along the way their parents try to distract them from their horrific situation by taking them on a journey through their imaginations. But with all the moving around, the children worried where will they end up on Christmas Eve? And more importantly, how will Santa find them?
